With Hilary Duff now back in full force and news swirling of a brand new solo album from Gwen Stefani on the horizon, it seems the girls of 2006-2007 are making a comeback. For her new solo offering, presumably off a new album entitled Smile Now, Cry Later, Fergie Ferg has released "L.A.LOVE (la la)", a hip-hop laced track that references almost every city in the world. Carrying a quick rap similar to the recent work of Iggy Azalea, the DJ Mustard-produced effort is a departure from the sugary pop found on her debut album, but still carries the rough charm and intriguing, confident vocals that come with every Fergie release.
"L.A.LOVE (la la)" shows the "Fergalicious" singer staying true to her BEP/hip-hop roots instead of conforming to the EDM-driven tunes of the past year as she delivers the clever verses of globetrotting with a fast-paced delivery. "Chronic smoke get burnt by the California sun, on the west coast, east coast where ya at?," Fergie declares on the slick, addictive ode to Los Angeles before the "la la la"-filled hook peeks around the corner to stay lodged in your brain long after it ends. It's not the most imaginative release, but it does its job.
Eight years have passed since the release of her first solo venture, and it seems Fergie feels no need to change the formula that's been working for her. She has sent countless songs to the top of the charts. "L.A.LOVE (la la)" is a commendable effort, however, it may not get enough buzz swirling for her upcoming project. The track is good, but does not do much to become a memorable chart staple. We have heard Fergie tackle the hip-hop genre before, we have heard this vocal delivery before, after eight years, I guess we were just expecting more.
