Skoda Kamiq And Scala Monte Carlo Announced For Frankfurt Motor Show

Skoda will expand its Monte Carlo lineup beyond the outgoing Fabia with the Kamiq and Scala, which will be presented at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

Like the subcompact hatchback, the Scala Monte Carlo and Kamiq Monte Carlo will be differentiated by their sportier styling, which will comprise mainly of some black details and special badging. Also, the models will be all-show with no extra go, as only the RS (vRS in the UK) badge denotes performance Skodas.

Named after the Monte Carlo Rally, the first editions bearing that moniker were launched in a limited edition of 70 back in 1936. Since 2011, the company has used the name on the second- and third-generation Fabia, Citigo, Rapid, Rapid Spaceback and Yeti. The latter was produced between 2015 and 2017, and the Citigo and Rapid Monte Carlos from 2014 to 2019.

“The Monte Carlo Rally and Skoda have a long-standing association, stretching back to over a hundred years”, explained the automaker. “As early as 1912, when the Monte Carlo Rally was only in its second year, vehicles from Mlada Boleslav were among the competitors.”

With their sporty black details, the Fabia Monte Carlo and Fabia Estate Monte Carlo are the range-topping versions of the series. The hatchback starts at £17,460 ($21,253/€19,095) in the UK, £3,315 ($4,035/€3,625) more than the entry-level S, and the wagon can be had from £18,345 ($22,331/€20,063), a £3,180 ($3,871/€3,478) premium over the base Fabia Estate S.
