It was just this past spring when singer-songwriter Greyson Chance officially came out of “ early retirement” for the release of his “proper” debut album portraits. Along with flawless, soulful numbers such as “yours” and ‘shut up”, Chance explored intriguing genre territory with “black on black” and “west texas”. Still bummed those two weren’t released as official singles.
Now, less than a year later, Chance begins to promote and tease an entirely new album era with the release of its lead single “Boots”, a track that takes the artist down an edgy country/rock musical path.
Instead of wallowing in heartbreak and indecision, Chance now swims in confidence and aggression as he calls out the posers appropriating Western culture. Supported by a hard rock beat, "Boots" finds the artist singing of what it truly means to be a cowboy in modern society. Growing up in Oklahoma, Chance knows it's not about the pink cowboy hat or vintage Wrangles one wears, but the attitude and grit.
With his previous album directly inspired by events of that year, as is "Boots". Influenced by his worldwide touring schedule -- it's ongoing with upcoming stops in New York City, Boston, and Chicago -- Chance is in celebratory mode, recognizing his hard work and worth. He calls out his critics, dodges their insults, and comes into his own when strutting in his big heels.
The sense of confidence exuded on "Boots", through smooth vocals and infectious production, differs from the hurt felt on Chance's previous efforts. This growth is highlighted in the accompanying music video. Looking dapper in his glistening silver get-up and black vest, Chance finds himself in a bloody altercation. Accepting the challenge, the artist comes out victorious, moving on to the next chapter.
Chance's third official album, reportedly produced alongside Teddy Geiger, is out soon.
