Village Idiot Kanye West debuted his new song 'Runaway' to a mixed audience this week. The video which is about 34 minutes long and a 'mini film'.
Basically a phoenix falls to the earth and Kanye falls in love with her but, it is a love that cannot last....you get the idea. By the way - look at those fingernails above. Is that not the worst special effects job you have ever seen. They look like plastic stick on euro shop halloween yokes! Mind you though, half the budget must have gone on explosions! So they had to cut corners.
Apparently the fash-pack loved it. Given that Philip Lim helped to design some of the costumes. I must admit, the styling is slick.
Reactions are confused though. A lot of Kanye's 'fans' just don't get it. Think he has sold out a bit to the fashion crowd. A lot of people generally think he's a tosser. Personally, I've seen it and I thought it was the biggest load of self loving art wank. Sorry! But I really did. Arty for the sake of it. I thought the song was okay at best not great. Unlike Michael Jackson's Thriller video - which was the longest music video before. (I am fairly sure that's right) This is all style and no substance. The song just isn't that great and a little disjointed and weird. The video just ensures people will watch it and pushes the song along. Oh and watch out for the Kanye-Tantrum if this doesn't win 'Video of the year' at the VMAs!!!!! Just like the year Justice won and he was PISSED!
- Watch his rant backstage at the VMAs below. He lost out to Justice in the best video spot. He does know how to make a tit of himself at award ceremonies doesn't he?
Right, enough about that. I can't find a link to watch the entire video. But I am sure it's going to be all over MV in a few days time anyway. If not already. However there is a clip of the video below from the ELLEN show. He played a little teaser there as well as scaring children (and ellen) with his new teeth.
While the reactions seem mixed to this. I'm sure it's going to get a lot of video time as people are curious about seeing the video for the first time. Apparently it's meant to be about rising from the flames after Kanye's massive f**k up at the VMAs (Was it the VMAS?) last year where he stormed the stage while poor Taylor Swift (yawn) was accepting an award. Everyone got on the bandwagon calling him a knob and Kanye felt his career was over. Which it very nearly was.
So what do you think? Have you seen it? Have you enjoyed it? Did you think it was a great video? Did you ogle Selita Ebanks boobs a little? - Go on, admit it, there's no shame in it.
