It's hard to believe that another year has flown by, forever to remain in the past, but that's just how it goes. Luckily, the last year brought incredible music to help pass the time. From Lady Gaga's fully evolved
ARTPOP to the return of Cher with
Closer to the Truth, from new projects from divas including Kylie Minogue, Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, Natalia Kills, RuPaul and even Britney Spears to debuts from Broods, Foxes and Adore Delano, the year was one to remember.
This tiny music blog may not be the go-to source for music entertainment and reviews just yet, but believe me when I say, one day it will be. Last year, I finished up my third year of blogging with over 78,000 views on this site. I was ecstatic with the number, people were actually reading my positive and negative critiques on some of the biggest names in music. With today marking the end of my fourth year working on this site, and after officially purchasing the domain name, my view count currently stands at 200,830 (at the time of this writing), surpassing the goal I set for myself 365 days ago. It is nowhere near the numbers of some of the established writers out there, but hell, I'll take it!
As I work to try to put up new content on a regular basis on this site, I am still working very closely with the EQ Music Blog team to give lesser-known, independent pop artists a chance to shine. The stuff we post truly deserves to be heard by the masses. This year, I have had the honor and privilege of speaking with out country superstar
Steve Grand, winner of RuPaul's Drag Race season five
Jinkx Monsoon, American Idol finalist
Kimberly Caldwell, innovative hip-hop/pop act
Solomon, indie Utah-based
Oh, Be Clever, a second interview with the talented
Semi Precious Weapons and the one and only
Boy George, along with his touring partner Mark Vedo! I can add these talented names to my ever-growing list of interviewees which already includes Raja, Blake Lewis, Blake McGrath, Kaya Jones, ROB.B, SIRPAUL, Colton Ford, Ryder, Adam Tyler and BAKER. Wow with the name dropping.
This year, I was also able to be one of the first to review Darren Ockert's brilliant pop album
Short Story Long and Semi Precious Weapons' party-tastic
Aviation, premiere the impressive visual for "Outta Nowhere" by indie pop artist KennyD, get early listens of dance gems, including "Sweat", from Armand Deluxe, assist the lovely ladies of XELLE during their SXSW takeover in March and countdown my favorite music videos, songs and albums of 2013. It has been a complete blast. I am hoping more artists will come across my blog, trust in me and my honest reviews and allow me the chance to share their work with other music lovers.
For the approaching year, I hope to continue to expand this soon-to-be brand. I want to interview more established artists, more up and coming talents, and yes, more contestants of RuPaul's Drag Race... Ben de la Creme give me a call! I want to form connections that will help get AlbumConfessions recognized, but most important, I want to keep writing my completely honest reviews of good and terrible music because in the end, this is what I want to be doing the rest of my life. Music does make the world a better place.... geez how cliche and soppy did that sound?! But seriously, every song that pops in my emails, every blog view, every comment, every Twitter follower, every Facebook like, it does bring a smile to my face. Thank you.
Again, I appreciate the support, the little things that keep this slightly delusional individual satisfied. Whether I'm rambling about how amazing "Do What U Want" by Lady Gaga is, how every needs to go buy copies of Foxes'
Glorious and Anastacia's
Resurrection right this second, or how I just was not too impressed with the new efforts from Lana Del Rey, Nicki Minaj or Katy Perry, I am glad you even take the time to click a link to my blog, when there are thousands that crowd timelines. Follow me on
Twitter, like my
Facebook page... if you want to. Until next year, let's hope for another 100,000 views and even more amazing music!
Love, Peace, Glitter & Grease...
Luis
